The papers of E. Niel Carey collectively document his professional endeavors as an educator and facilitator of career education at the Maryland State Board of Education and the National Council on Career Advancement, 1967-1997. Records include his service in the United States Air Force; however, the majority of materials focus on the development of career education as one of the first programs of its kind. Additionally, records document Carey’s publication activities and public service. A transcription of a 1783 letter written by Carey's ancestor is attached.

The bulk of matierials in this collection date from 1940-1948, and specifically the years of the Second World War. The collection documents STC correspondence to and from Blackwell, events, employment, programs, academic curriculum, construction, budgeting, supply requisitions, student lists, grades, staff lists. Also included are letters to and from the registrar and other administration copied for the president.
